German born Hans York, an impeccable Singer, Songwriter, Composer and a master on guitar. Hans is not new to this crazy music business, he has dipped his fingers in Classical music, theater as well as pop, cult rock, folk, rock'n'roll, blues, jazz and even classical music. He was Co-founder of German based, "Moki Efti", a popular world music cult band in his early years. Once moving to the United States, he honed his craft as an astute solo singer, songwriter who pens songs based on life, love and experiences. Hans is well known for his incredible skills on guitar and has the voice that will make you do a double take. He has just completed travelling the width and breadth of the entire country of United States. He played concerts and gigged the entire way. This reviewer has been following his journey and has waited with bated breath for his brand new album based on those travels.
Well babies, the wait is over. Hans York has delivered his latest release called "Heard or Herded", definitely worth the wait. 11 tracks, all a slice of perfection. Hans York has managed to bring the world to you with lyrics that paint stories bigger than life. With each album Hans grows stronger and evolves further. This album is beautifully produced and recorded. Never has Hans York sounded so strong and magnificent.
The instrumentation is as expected, top notch, Hans York doesn't do any thing half way. A true professional and master who raises the bar with every new album. It is always such a treat when the instrumentation is as brilliant as the vocals. This album has a smooth groove throughout, moving easily through blues, rock `n roll, pop, folk and a touch of jazz, boxing this man in a genre is not possible. It's one of things I love about Hans York, he has freedom to let his musical juices flow. This incredible "Heard or Herded" album testifies to Hans York's sheer ability to be a leader and not a follower. His ever resilient talent at creating songs and music that breathe life and pictures around the listener as they hear them, is blindingly exceptional and obvious. This album, Ladies & Gentlemen, is a step above your expectations. Brilliant!
The three tracks I have set aside from "Heard or Herded" are:
1 - Dance Away
Hans York has delighted us with this upbeat blues song. Orchestration has been well thought out. Hans York nails the vocals, and the harmonies frame Hans gorgeous voice beautifully. This song has a great hook, staying with you long after the song is finished playing. The exceptional instrumentation will please any listener. Brilliant Track!
2 - If You Believe In Me
Hans York shows us once again why we love him so. "If You Believe In Me" is one of my favorites. Remarkable lyrics, supported by Hans York's fabulous vocal style, it couldn't go wrong. This song was written from deep within Hans but each and every listener will be able to relate. Beautifully presented song. A great feel with some brilliant scat thrown in, like only Hans can do this well. And check out that trumpet! Nice touch.
3 - Once You Loved
Oh Lord, hold me back. This reviewer is in love! Hans York has once again delivered strong lyrics married with a vocal that will make you melt. "Once You Loved" has a jazzy Latin Samba feel. You know the beat, the one that gets your head swaying. Instrumentation and orchestration is outstanding leaving you feeling you are a part of something special. I know I mentioned this before but Lordy! Hans York has done me IN with his fabulous and sexy vocal. Really beautifully done!
Do It All Again & "There's No Way"
Hans York did it again! Lord these are gorgeous songs. The lyrics will burrow straight into you and make a home there, believe me. Both these songs have been orchestrated to perfection. The Instrumentation and vocals are gorgeous. Hans York delivers every time.
Look, the truth is, I think this entire album is absolutely exceptional. Hans York is one of those extremely talented individuals who can do anything he sets out to achieve. He pays attention to what's going on around him and is not afraid to look deep within himself. He pulls some of the most remarkable lyrics and sets them free on the wings of music with finesse`. This Hans York - Heard or Herded album is outstanding! One of Hans York's best! I will be wearing this album out and you will too, trust me. Simply breathtaking Hans York!
